Jakarta (WNAM MONITORING): The Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry (Kemlu) stated that Indonesia supports the International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrants against Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu and former head of the defense authority Yoav Gallant.
“The issuance of arrest warrants by the ICC for Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant represents a significant step towards achieving justice for the crimes against humanity and war crimes in Palestine,” according to an official statement from Kemlu on Saturday.
Indonesia also reiterated its support for all initiatives aimed at ensuring accountability for crimes committed by Israel, including those taken through the ICC.
“Indonesia emphasizes that these arrest warrants must be carried out in full accordance with international law,” according to the statement.
Indonesia views the step as important to end Israel’s illegal occupation of the Palestinian territories and advance the establishment of an independent State of Palestine in accordance with the principles of the Two-State Solution.
On Thursday (Nov 21), the ICC officially issued arrest warrants for Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu and former head of the defense authority Yoav Gallant on suspicion of war crimes.
The ICC stated that they issued arrest warrants against two individuals, Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant, for crimes against humanity and war crimes committed at least from October 8, 2023, to May 20, 2024.
The date May 20, mentioned in the statement, refers to the day on which the ICC Prosecutor applied for the arrest warrants against them.
In doing so, the ICC rejected Israel’s argument that the court lacked jurisdiction to order the arrest of Netanyahu and Gallant.
