WNAM REPORT; The next stage of trainings on providing effective support for children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD), intended for professional child care specialists, is being held in Ashgabat from June 10 to 14.
The trainings were organized by UNICEF in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry and the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan.
As part of this initiative, experts from the St. Petersburg Institute of Early Intervention are conducting parallel trainings for specialists from pilot kindergartens No. 14 and 160 and an interdisciplinary team of specialists from the habilitation department of the new Health and Rehabilitation Center.
This initiative is launched in support of one of the most important components of the inclusive education approach in Turkmenistan, which involves the provision of continuous services for children with disabilities.
The training program focuses on the timely detection of various autism spectrum disorders using a set of screening tools and further development of individual development plans for children with early disabilities along with their individual educational plans. It is important that these children attend pilot general education kindergartens, and trained specialists from these institutions, together with the team of the Health Rehabilitation Center, provide continuous support to these children and their families.
This partnership approach aims to build a model of effective inter-sectoral services for children with disabilities at an early age and their families, according to a UNICEF press release.
