Since creation of Pakistan, Kabul has seen rulers of all sorts from monarchs to communists and Islamic zealots. One feature which was found common in them was their animosity against Pakistan. On many political issues cropping up in this part of the world or elsewhere they always sided with India rather than Pakistan.
Islamabad on its part being its neighbor always went the whole hog throughout to make things easier for Kabul in many areas like trade etc. but in return Afghanistan never reciprocated in the same manner. Not once but many times the hostile mobs trampled Pakistani flag under their feet and and even had the audacity to burnt it down in various cities of Afghanistan.
Never for once did Kabul bring to book the culprits involved in these episodes. Pakistan’s silence and inactivity in the matter was taken as its pusillanimity. So emboldened have the Afghanis become that they now give a damn to Pakistan by creating trouble frequently at the border check posts on Pak-Afghan borders .
A case in point is Torkham’s Pak-Afghan border at which the security staff of Afghanistan pick up quarrel with its Pakistani security personnel at the drop of a hat on minor things. It is about time Islamabad took this issue seriously with Kabul. Both the interior and Foreign ministries should reopen talks with their Kabul’s counterparts without losing further time to improve poor border management at Torkham’s border which has gone from bad to worse lately.
