WNAM REPORT: The National Food Agency (Bapanas) has distributed 1.02 million tons of government rice reserves as of the third week of June 2026, as part of an ongoing effort to stabilize market supplies and prices.
“As of June 23, Bapanas records show that the total distribution of government rice reserves to the public for the 2026 budget year has reached 1.02 million tons,” Bapanas Head Andi Amran Sulaiman said in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday.
According to Bapanas data, the distribution of the price-stabilization rice comprises 601,700 tons for food assistance, 367,800 tons for the Food Supply and Price Stabilization (SPHP) program, 38,000 tons allocated for civil servants in designated regions, and 11,300 tons distributed for emergency response efforts.
Meanwhile, the total government rice reserves managed by state logistics agency Perum Bulog stood at 5.17 million tons as of June 23. This current inventory includes 3.23 million tons of rice sourced through domestic procurement since the beginning of 2026.
The reserves also benefit from 3.24 million tons carried over from the end of 2025. This leftover stock came entirely from domestic production procurement throughout 2025, totaling 3.43 million tons with zero imports.
Despite a rise in rice prices over the past month, Bapanas assessed that market conditions remain stable as price movements have stayed within the retail price ceiling corridor for medium-grade rice.
In Zone I, comprising Java, Lampung, South Sumatra, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, and Sulawesi, Bapanas recorded an average price of Rp13,080 (approximately US$0.73) per kilogram (kg) as of June 22, well below the zone’s medium-grade rice retail price ceiling of Rp13,500 per kg.
Meanwhile, in Zone II, covering Sumatra (excluding Lampung and South Sumatra), East Nusa Tenggara, and Kalimantan, the average price on June 22 stood at Rp13,704 per kg, against a price ceiling of Rp14,000 per kg.
Furthermore, in Zone III, which encompasses Maluku and Papua, the average price of medium-grade rice stood at Rp15,244 per kg, still below the ceiling of Rp15,500 per kg.
