WNAM REPORT: President Ersin Tatar had a meeting with the Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General (UNSG), María Ángela Holguín Cuellar. Tatar and Holguín made separate statements following the meeting.
In his statement, President Tatar said that during the meeting, he explained to the Personal Envoy that the Cyprus issue has a history of more than 60 years and has many different dimensions, and that in order to understand the stance of the Turkish Cypriot people, it is necessary to know well how we have reached today.
President Tatar reiterated his position on having sovereign equality and equal international status for the Turkish Cypriot side in order to restart talks.
Speaking after the one-hour long meeting, the UN Personal Envoy Maria Angela Holguin said she had a “very good meeting” with President Ersin Tatar, and that she hoped the rest of her meetings this week with the chambers of commerce and civil society would be likewise.
