Jakarta ( WNAM MONITORING): Prabowo Subianto will become the first Indonesian president to be sworn in outside of Jakarta, as the government plans to hold the October 20 inauguration ceremony in the new national capital, Nusantara.
“The new president will be sworn in there,” Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said on Tuesday.
Prabowo was declared the winner of the Feb. 14 election with 58 percent of the vote when the national tally was formally announced by the General Election Commission (KPU) on March 20.
While the construction of Nusantara in East Kalimantan remains in its initial stage, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is determined to launch the new capital during the Independence Day ceremony in August.
The construction of the new State Palace, ministerial offices, basic infrastructure, and utilities is expected to be completed in the next few months.
Basuki said the construction of the new parliament buildings will start next year, meaning that the president’s State of the Union this year will be delivered before lawmakers and senators in Jakarta.
“The August 17 Independence Day ceremony will be held in Nusantara,” he said.
