Nusantara: President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo inaugurated a dam on Tuesday that will supply potable water to the future national capital, Nusantara, in East Kalimantan.
Named Sepaku Semoi, the dam processes clean and safe drinking water, according to Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, who spoke after the launch ceremony.
Located in Sepaku district, North Penajam Paser regency, where the national capital is currently under construction, the dam has a capacity of 16 million cubic meters of water. It is projected to supply potable water to Nusantara and the nearby city of Balikpapan at a rate of up to 500 liters per second, the minister said.
Before reaching consumers, the water will pass through the water treatment facility in Intek Sepaku to meet drinking water quality standards.
