WNAM MONITORING: In anticipation of COP29, scheduled to take place in Baku from November 11-22 this year, the COP29 Azerbaijan Operating Company is continuing the relevant work on implementing an optimized transport scheme, considering that thousands of visitors from various countries will be traveling to Baku.
To effectively manage the large influx of visitors and ensure the smooth movement of guests and city residents during the conference, special COP29 transport lanes have been introduced on the city streets as part of the planned measures. Marked with the COP29 logo these lanes are designated for event traffic to ensure fast and uninterrupted movement.
During the conference, only public transportation and vehicles with special permits related to the event will be allowed to use these lanes. All vehicles can use the lanes where the appropriate traffic signs are not installed until the conference.
Furthermore, 14 transportation hubs will be set up in various key areas of the city throughout the conference. The network of transport hubs planned, to consider the location of Baku Stadium, the venue of the event, the map of the city’s metro station, the densely located areas of hotels and residential complexes, and other factors, will include various routes and transport schemes. Traffic participants will be continuously informed and updated about the schemes.
Thus, the strategic location of these hubs will provide both guests and city residents with convenient and unhindered access to various types of transportation and minimize the time spent on reaching their destination. For the effective organization of the event operations on the designated comprehensive transport routes, the movement of hundreds of taxis and about 400 buses, including dedicated public buses, conference shuttles and airport express shuttles will be organized and a regular passenger transportation service will be implemented.
One of the main factors in launching the transport scheme is the provision of accessible and convenient alternatives to minimize citizens’ use of private cars on the event dates.
