A new era of Supreme court has begun with the appointment of new CJP. The common man very rightly expects that under his guidance the apex court would go the whole hog to ensure that pendency of undecided cases is finished as early as possible and in future inordinate delay is not caused by the lower courts in deciding cases. In this connection it will need the whole hearted cooperation of the lawyers’ fraternity.
Needless to say that the bench and the bar are like the two wheels of a car if one breaks down the car cannot run. Granted that the superior courts are known to dispense justice and rectify the mistakes, if any, committed by the subordinate courts but it is well nigh impossible to reach the superior court in appeal for all and sundry because of the prohibitive consultancy fee demanded by the lawyers for appearing in the apex courts, so hopefully a way out will be found out in the matter by the CJP.
A code of ethics exist for judicial officers. There is, however a need for its meticulous and strict implementation for which strict monitoring of the functioning of lower courts would be sine quinone.
