WNAM REPORT: Kyrgyzstan plans to double electricity production by 2030, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the country Edil Baisalov told during the regional forum “Green Economy – 2024”.
He said that this year Kyrgyzstan will open its national pavilion for the first time at the UN climate conference COP29 in Baku.
“Kyrgyzstan is making huge efforts to introduce renewable energy sources – this is not only hydropower, small hydro power plants, but also hundreds of solar energy sites. Literally next year we will open them on a weekly basis. We are already implementing projects for several gigawatts in total, including wind energy. The largest regional project is the construction of the Kambar Ata HPP-1 together with our neighbors, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. In the field of agriculture, we have many technologies, drip irrigation, canals, new types of crops and sowings that need to be introduced. Our Ministry of Economy and Commerce is developing a 5-year program, by 2029 we will already reach a 30 billion economy,” he said.
Baisalov noted that Kyrgyzstan intends to review the Paris Agreement.
“We are forced to abandon the fact that the previous government thoughtlessly denied the Kyrgyz people the right to development. Kyrgyzstan is a record holder in reducing greenhouse gas emissions compared to 1990. We have already reduced gas emissions by 65%,” the deputy chairman said.
He also noted that Kyrgyzstan plans to produce green hydrogen and use it for the third cycle of fertilization.
