WNAM REPORT: Prosecutors questioned former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun for the third round on Monday on treason charges related to President Yoon Suk Yeol’s martial law declaration last week.
The special prosecution investigation team handling the case brought Kim in for questioning Monday morning on treason, abuse of power and other charges, marking the third time he has been interrogated since his emergency arrest the previous day.
Kim is a key suspect in the martial law turmoil, having proposed its imposition to Yoon.
He allegedly masterminded the declaration of a martial law decree banning all political activities as well as the infiltration by military forces into the National Assembly and the offices of the National Election Commission following Yoon’s declaration on Tuesday night.
Kim reportedly conceded his involvement, including his proposal of martial law, during questioning, but claimed that his actions were neither illegal nor unconstitutional.
Prosecutors are expected to seek a court warrant as early as Monday afternoon to formally arrest Kim for additional questioning.
Prosecutors concluded that he is a flight risk and poses the risk of destroying evidence, given that he changed his mobile phone after the martial law declaration.
