BAKU ( WNAM MONITORING): Organized by the Center of Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center), an international conference themed “The Major Obstacle to the Peace Agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia” was held in Baku.
Addressing the event, Farid Shafiyev, AIR Center Chairman, highlighted Azerbaijan’s reconciliation efforts with Armenia. He stressed that, however, Armenia’s ongoing territorial claims hinder the peace process.
Elnur Mammadov, Azerbaijan`s Deputy Foreign Minister, emphasized the country`s proposal for a peace treaty with Armenia, describing the territorial claims against Azerbaijan outlined in the Armenian Constitution as the primary obstacle for building peace. The other problem, according to him, is the stance of the opposition.
Javid Gadirov, Associate Dean at the ADA School of Law, pointed out that Armenia’s participation in delimitation efforts stands at odds with its own Constitution, which, he suggested, likely classifies territorial claims as a “fundamental rule” in its preamble.
The conference then featured the panel discussions on “Obstacles to the Peace Treaty in the Constitution and Laws of Armenia” and “Changing Constitutions for Peace – International Experiences”.
