WNAM MONITORING: The Ministry of National Defence and Cao Bang province on December 2nd held a state-level workshop themed “The Heroic Army of the Heroic Vietnam” This is one of the key activities in celebration of the 70th founding anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army (December 22nd, 1944 – December 22nd, 2014) and the 25th whole people’s defense festival (December 22nd, 1989 – December 22nd, 2014).
General Phung Quang Thanh, Minister of National Defence, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Cung, Deputy Defence Minister, and other generals, high-ranking officials, and scientists attended the event. State President Truong Tan Sang also sent a letter of congratulation to the workshop.
In his opening speech, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Cung highlighted the great significance of the workshop in educating the revolutionary traditions to the whole army and people and in fostering patriotism and love for socialism, the pride and self-resilience as well as the undaunted spirit of the nation in the national construction and defence in the new context.

In his introduction presentation, Lieutenant General Mai Quang Phan, asked speakers to focus on confirming and clarifying the leadership and the wise strategy and good vision of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh in the cause of building, educating and training of the Vietnam People’s Army.
More than 70 scientific reports pointed out the systematic and comprehensive process in which the Vietnam People’s Army was founded, built up its force, combated enemies and developed as a mordern army. The speakers also analyzed the achievements and lessons learned from the development process of the army. The participants agreed that in the new context, to promote the tradition of the army, it is necessary to further strengthen the Party’s comprehensive leadership over the army while consolidating the working class nature of the army and resolutely fighting the scheme “depoliticizing the military” of the hostile forces.
The participants also believed that with its 70 years glorious history, the Vietnam People’s Army will always be loyal to the nation, the Party, and the people in building and defending the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

In his closing speech, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Cung stressed that results of this day-long seminar would be the encouragement for the entire soldiers and officers to strive harder to further build the army into the elite and modern one and to deserve the title the heroic army of the heroic nation.
