WNAM MONITORING: China’s special envoy on the Middle East, Zhai Jun, met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah to discuss a wide range of issues, including the Gaza ceasefire and China-Palestine relations, Beijing said on Sunday.
During the meeting on Saturday, Abbas thanked China for its “steadfast” support of Palestine and reiterated his country’s consistent support for Beijing’s core concerns, according to a Chinese Foreign Ministry statement.
Abbas also expressed Palestine’s support for the Gaza ceasefire between Israel and the Hamas group, calling for an immediate end to the fighting.
The Palestinian side, he added, has made preparations for post-conflict governance in Gaza, though he did not go into detail.
Zhai, for his part, said China welcomed the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and hoped it would be effectively implemented to achieve a “comprehensive” and “permanent” ceasefire as soon as possible.
“No matter how the situation changes, China will, as always, firmly support the just cause of the Palestinian people in restoring their legitimate national rights, support Palestine in achieving national reconciliation and strengthening unity, support Palestine’s bid for full UN membership as soon as possible, and promote an early, comprehensive, just, and lasting resolution of the Palestinian question based on the two-state solution,” Zhai affirmed.
He also emphasized that China and Palestine enjoy a traditional friendship, mutual trust, and mutual support.
