WNAM MONITORING: Turkmenistan plays a key role in ensuring stability and regional cooperation in Central Asia, noted Derya Soysal, a member of the Belgian Diplomatic World Institute, a correspondent for Bruxelles Korner, and an independent environmental expert specializing in the history of Central Asia, in an interview with the German television channel Kanal Avrupa.
While discussing the country’s role in maintaining regional peace, she highlighted Ashgabat’s contribution to resolving issues related to the status of the Caspian Sea, Turkmenistan’s efforts to develop good-neighborly relations, and the country’s participation in international initiatives aimed at promoting peace and sustainable development, as reported by Derya Soysal to the online publication Business Turkmenistan.
Soysal also mentioned the initiative of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, to hold a meeting of foreign ministers from Caspian states, which, in her opinion, fosters dialogue and cooperation. She emphasized the significance of the Treaty on a Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone in Central Asia, which will celebrate its 15th anniversary in 2024, as an example of constructive interaction in the security sphere.
The TAPI gas pipeline project received special attention for promoting economic development in the region and strengthening peace and stability.
Soysal also highlighted the growing international focus on Central Asia. According to her, global changes, including new economic and energy challenges, stimulate cooperation between countries in the region and international partners, opening new prospects for mutually beneficial interactions.
