RAWALPINDI ( WNAM REPORT ): Secretary Local Government Punjab Mian Shakeel Ahmed along with Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Engineer Aamir Khattak chaired a high level meeting to review headway on DREAMs and other development schemes. This meeting in held at Commissioner’s Office Rawalpindi was attended by Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi, Director Development, MD WASA and other officers.
On the occasion, MD WASA Mohammad Saleem Ashraf gave a briefing on DREAMs project of Water Supply. The briefing stated that the four -part Dreams Project will meet the shortage of drinking water in the urban areas of Rawalpindi. The Asian Development Bank has allocated Rs 35 billion for this project. Under this project, a total of 2.5 million gallons of additional water will be available from Rawal Dam, Khanpur Dam and Chahan Dam. Lines and ground storage tanks are being constructed for water delivery, as well as upgrading of the filtration plant from Rawal Dam is also underway. In addition, work on the Chahan Dam project is 7.5 % while Rawal Dam has a 6.6 % progress .
Speaking on the is occasion, Secretary Local Government said that the quality and transparency of the work should be ensured to bring the benefits of the Dreams Project to the general public. He directed that the work pace on the Water Supply Dreams project be accelerated. Commissioner Rawalpindi Engineer Aamir Khattak said that the Water Supply Dreams Project is very important for our city. It also includes a solar project which will reduce the burden of electricity bills on WASA. He said that 80 million gallons of extra water daily from Khanpur Dam would be made possible to overcome the growing water crisis.
