WNAM MONITORING: The Indian army conducted a firing exercise Wednesday near the Chinese border in disputed Jammu and Kashmir.
The army’s Fire and Fury Corps, responsible for the eastern Line of Actual Control (LAC) — a de facto border between India and China — conducted the exercise in the Ladakh area.
It conducted an “integrated firing exercise in Ladakh aimed at enhancing jointness and validation of tactics, techniques and procedures incorporating new generation equipment and battlefield equalizers,” the military wrote on X.
Pictures and video of the exercise showed the army deploying tanks and other weapons during the drill.
The exercises come as New Delhi and Beijing have taken measures to normalize ties.
The two countries confirmed a new border patrolling arrangement last October along the LAC in Ladakh, leading to military disengagement and an easing of tensions that had peaked during deadly clashes in 2020, in which 20 Indian and four Chinese soldiers were killed.
