WNAM MONITORING: President Shavkat Mirziyoyev stated this on November 18, 2023, during his inspection of the Olympic Village construction.

“Here, not only training, but also sports education, science, and medicine must be integrated. In other words, this place will become a scientific, practical, and training center for the sports of our country”, the Head of State emphasized.

In line with this concept, the village is home to the Ministry of Sports, the Anti-Doping Agency, the State Sports Academy, the Research Institute of Physical Culture, and the Center for the Development of Sports.

During the current visit, information was presented on plans for the effective use of the Olympic Village’s infrastructure, as well as the location and activities of sports organizations.

First and foremost, international competitions will be held here. After their completion, the facilities will not stand idle: they will serve as bases for training camps of national teams, while federations will establish cooperation with sports schools. In addition, the conditions for engaging in sports will also be open to the country’s residents.

The President met with the heads of sports organizations and federations.

“First of all, I congratulate our athletes and federations on the creation of such a complex. With this, we have laid a solid foundation for the health of the younger generation and for future victories. But this is only the beginning. What is far more important is the mass development of sports and the training of professional athletes. We will develop sports both in terms of health and results. There are plans to build such Olympic villages in the regions as well. The main goal is the health and all-round development of our youth”, Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.

As is well known, at the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, our athletes achieved great success, placing 13th in the overall team standings in both categories. The goal is now set to develop the Olympic movement and improve results at the upcoming competitions.

On July 8 of this year, the President signed a resolution on the program for preparing Uzbekistan athletes for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. To ensure systematic organization of this work, 14 regional branches of the National Olympic Committee have been established. The Chairman of the Jokargy Kenes of Karakalpakstan, the hokims of the regions, and the city of Tashkent have been appointed as the President’s special representatives for the development of the Olympic movement. Each region has been assigned responsible officials from the Ministry of Sports and the Olympic Committee.

The main objective is to create a sustainable system for training athletes and ensuring conditions for achieving high results not only at a single Olympic Games, but for many years to come.

To identify and professionally train talented athletes from the grassroots level, a three-stage competition system titled “Olympic Peaks of the New Uzbekistan” has been introduced. Its final stage will be held annually in the Olympic Village under the name “Presidential Olympics”. Winners will be sent to Olympic centers for further professional training.

The activities of the Republican Olympic and Paralympic Centers will focus on forming a reserve for the national teams. To organize training camps, they will be granted free use of the facilities of the Olympic Village.

In addition, to expand the pool of athletes, the activities of private sports clubs will be improved, and their participation in official competitions will be ensured. Athletes who demonstrate high performance will have the opportunity to join the national teams.

The President paid special attention to the development of mass sports.

“Courage and the spirit of competition are in the blood of our people. Our people love sports. This love must be nurtured, and sports should be made even more widespread in mahallas. There are conditions for this at the local level, and new facilities continue to be built. Mass participation will surely bring results”, Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized.

Instructions were also given to digitize the sports sector, strengthen the activities of federations, and expand the number of successful sports disciplines.
