Jakarta: A senior advisor to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has stated that all cabinet ministers are committed to assisting the president until the end of his term in October 2024.
“All ministers in the Onward Indonesia Cabinet remain close and solid in helping the president lead the administration until the end of his term,” said Ari Dwipayana, Chief of the Presidential Special Staff, on Thursday.
He made this statement following comments from senior economist Faisal Basri that two ministers would resign from the cabinet.
“Regarding the issue of ministers that are ready to resign or feel uncomfortable in the government, ask those who made the issue,” he said.
During a recent discussion, Basri said that Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati and Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono were ready to resign from the cabinet.
The economist said that the ministers were ready to step down over concerns about Jokowi’s support for a certain pair of candidates in the upcoming presidential election.
Meanwhile, Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan urged all parties to refrain from spreading rumors about Minister Indrawati.
“Don’t spread rumors,” he said after attending a limited meeting with Jokowi at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday.
Asked why Indrawati was absent from the meeting, Hasan told reporters not to discuss the matter, saying there was no problem with it.
