Pakistan, Malaysia share goals for building a modern, technology-driven economy: Shaza Fatima Khawaja

ISLAMABAD ( WNAM REPORT ): Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications Shaza Fatima Khawaja met Malaysia’s Minister of Communications, Ahmad Fahmi bin Mohamed Fadzil, on the sidelines of the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC).She reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to expanding digital cooperation with partner countries. Both sides appreciated the strong bilateral ties and the longstanding strategic partnership between Pakistan and Malaysia.

Shaza Fatima said Pakistan’s digital vision aligns closely with Malaysia’s MyDigital Blueprint, noting that both countries share goals for building a modern, technology-driven economy.

She highlighted Pakistan’s rapidly growing IT industry and its pool of more than 600,000 tech professionals, calling it a major national asset.

The two ministers also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration in ICT exports.

She proposed launching a Pakistan–Malaysia Digital Policy Dialogue and emphasised cooperation in talent mobility and skills development in fields such as artificial intelligence, data science and the Internet of Things.

She also discussed joint initiatives in cybersecurity and digital content development.
Separately, Shaza Fatima visited Azerbaijan’s Asan Xidmet Centre, praising its citizen service model as an excellent example of digital governance.

The Pakistani delegation received a detailed briefing on e-governance frameworks, citizen service delivery and digital integration systems. Shaza Fatima also gave an interview to Asan Xidmet Media, noting that Pakistan–Azerbaijan relations have grown stronger following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to Baku.

She said both countries are entering a new phase of digital cooperation, technological partnership and exchange of public-service expertise.

The minister stressed that citizen-focused digital services remain central to Pakistan’s digital reform agenda.

She added that Pakistan plans to establish Asan Xidmet-style citizen service centres nationwide following the successful launch of the pilot project in Islamabad.
