ICCI to host Traders Convention for swift resolution of business community problems: Sardar Tahir Mehmood

ISLAMABAD ( WNAM REPORT ): President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI), Sardar Tahir Mehmood, has announced that the Chamber will soon convene a Traders Convention aimed at formulating concrete, actionable proposals for submission to the concerned authorities to ensure swift resolution of the business community’s longstanding issues.
He said the business community is the real engine of economic growth, yet its concerns are persistently ignored by relevant authorities whose primary focus revolves around imposing additional taxes for their own expenditures rather than facilitating trade. He reaffirmed that ICCI’s top priority is to address traders’ problems at the grassroots level, whether related to infrastructure, municipal services, regulations, or market facilitation. He added that ICCI is committed to strengthening every commercial center of the Capital by fostering an enabling business environment, improving service delivery, and promoting ease of doing business.
He said this while addressing a delegation of the Traders Welfare Association (TWA) G-9, led by its President Raja Zulfiqar which visited ICCI here on Tuesday and briefed President Sardar Tahir Mehmood about the key issues confronting traders of the locality. Senior Vice President Tahir Ayub, Vice President Mohammad Irfan Chaudhry, and Executive Committee members were also present on the occasion.
The TWA President Raja Zulfiqar highlighted pressing challenges including market’s poor infrastructure, sewage issues, encroachments, lack of streetlights, insufficient parking, damaged footpaths, and security concerns. He urged ICCI leadership to ensure that the Chairman CDA visits the Chamber to directly hear traders’ grievances.
Senior Vice President Tahir Ayub stated that ICCI maintains regular engagement with market associations across Islamabad and will continue raising traders’ concerns with CDA and other departments for timely action. He assured the delegation that ICCI’s doors remain open for all traders seeking guidance or assistance.
Vice President Mohammad Irfan Chaudhry said that resolving market-level issues remains central to ICCI’s community service mission. He emphasized that the Chamber is strengthening coordination with traders to ensure smooth business operations and improved facilities in all commercial zones.
Those who shared their views included General Secretary TWA G-9 Markaz Shahid Abbasi, former Senior Vice Presidents Ashfaq Hussain Chattah, Khalid Chaudhry, former Executive Members Rohail Anwar Butt and Imtiaz Abbasi.
