Jakarta ( WNAM MONITORING): Deputy Trade Minister Dyah Roro Esti stated that Indonesia is expected to boost its halal exports following the signing of mutual recognition agreements (MRAs) on halal certification with several countries.
“The potential continues to grow alongside the strengthening of exports through Mutual Recognition Agreements on Indonesia’s halal certification, which is now recognized in 16 countries, complemented by bilateral cooperation on halal trade with five strategic partner nations,” she said in a statement on Thursday.
According to her, the growing export potential of halal products is expected to increase the country’s foreign exchange earnings and strengthen Indonesia’s position in the global halal trade sector.
She further noted that, based on Ministry of Trade records, Indonesia’s total halal export value reached US$41.4 billion in 2024.
“The food and beverage sector contributed the most, at US$33.6 billion, followed by modest fashion at US$6.83 billion, and halal cosmetics at US$363 million,” she explained.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Indonesian Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH), Ahmad Haikal Hasan, confirmed that his agency has also established an MRA with the United States regarding the implementation of halal certification.
Hasan said the agreement, which was made in coordination with the Office of the United States Trade Representative and the United States Department of Defense, is expected to serve as a foundation for the mutual recognition of halal certification for both Indonesian and US products in bilateral trade.
He also underscored the importance of comprehensively strengthening the halal ecosystem to create a bright future for Indonesia’s halal industry.
