WNAM REPORT: On June 1st, over 57 million registered voters in Ethiopia will exercise their right to vote to further strengthen its flourishing democracy. The vote will feature multiple political parties and will take place in the presence of international media and observer missions from the African Union (AU) and IGAD.
This milestone vote, marking one of the largest electoral exercises in Africa, will shape Ethiopia’s path toward stability and inclusive governance. Here is the 7th General Election Overview:
Registered Voters: 54,057,871, Β a total of 42 political parties are competing, Β 10,438 political party candidates and 80 independent candidates are participating, Political parties conducted 19 debate forums in five different languages using allocated airtime, Β Competing parties are deploying over 250,000 representatives to monitor the election process, Β African Union (AU) and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) have sent representatives to observe the election, a 59-member African Union election observer team is operating under the leadership of former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, Β IGAD is deploying a 26-member election observer team, Β 55 local civic organizations were licensed and have begun their work. These 55 local organizations have deployed 1,562 election observers. Election materials have been distributed to the areas across the regions.
