WNAM REPORT: Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism is seeking to strengthen collaboration with relevant stakeholders to develop tourism services tailored for senior citizens amid growing aging populations worldwide.

“Through collaboration among the government, businesses, associations, academia, healthcare professionals, and the public, we are optimistic that developing senior tourism will open up new economic opportunities and expand the high-quality tourism market,” the ministry’s spokesperson Nia Niscaya told in on Sunday.

Nia expressed optimism that developing tourism services for older adults could strengthen Indonesia’s position as a premier destination both regionally and globally.

She explained that senior-friendly tourism is designed for older individuals who require travel arrangements tailored to their physical, psychological, and social needs.

This type of tourism primarily offers accessibility, flexible itineraries, and an environment that supports traveler health.

Providing these services requires senior-friendly tourism infrastructure as well as adequate facilities to help visitors access medical and wellness care.

“To realize this, the Ministry of Tourism is not only focusing on the development of destinations but also on building a business ecosystem that can thoroughly meet the needs of senior tourists,” she remarked.

The ministry is pushing to upgrade service standards and quality, strengthen workforce competency, and provide senior-friendly facilities to ensure safe and comfortable travel experiences.

In addition, the ministry is guiding the development of holistic tour packages that allow visitors to enjoy local culture and natural beauty while benefiting from wellness services and healthy dining options.

Such packages, she continued, enable travelers to enjoy trips that benefit their physical, mental, and emotional health.

Nia expressed hope that going forward, Indonesia will not only be known for its leading natural and cultural destinations, but also for its high-quality wellness and senior-friendly tourism services.
