WNAM REPORT: The Ministry of Industry is partnering with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) to accelerate the development of sustainable industrial areas through the Eco-Industrial Park (EIP) Center.
The two sides jointly launched the EIP Center in Jakarta on Tuesday, aiming to establish a hub for initiatives that advance the transition toward environmentally friendly industrial practices.
Director general for resilience, regionalization, and international industrial access at the Ministry of Industry, Tri Supondy, remarked during the inauguration ceremony that the establishment of the EIP Center forms part of Indonesia’s efforts to implement Phase II of the Global Eco-Industrial Parks Programme (GEIPP II).
He noted that the EIP Center is expected to provide comprehensive support for industrial estate managers by helping them formulate transformation roadmaps, offering technical consultation and training, and developing pilot green industrial estate projects.
The newly launched facility is also designed to strengthen industrial decarbonization measures while promoting the circular economy, industrial symbiosis, and sustainable industrial practices, he added.
Supondy further stated that the Ministry of Industry has established a technical team involving UNIDO and industrial associations to support the center’s operation.
He emphasized that advancing the transition toward green industry requires strong collaboration among the government, the business community, industrial estate managers, regional governments, associations, universities, and development partners.
He expressed hope that the EIP Center would serve as a hub for science, innovation, and knowledge, as well as a catalyst for Indonesian industrial estates to transform into sustainable and globally competitive eco-industrial parks.
Meanwhile, UNIDO Representative to Indonesia, the Philippines, and Timor-Leste Marco Kamiya described the EIP Center as a manifestation of Indonesia’s commitment to striking a balance between industrial growth and environmental protection.
