WNAM MONIYORING: The International Institute for Central Asia and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Uzbekistan held an International Conference “Uzbekistan and China: Advancing mutually beneficial cooperation for the peoples of both countries”.
The forum partners were the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the two countries, and the China Institute of International Studies under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China.
The conference was attended by more than 200 representatives of ministries and agencies, leading analytical and research centers of Uzbekistan and China, and business circles of China, including China Energy, BYD Uzbekistan Factory, Power China, ZTE Investment, and Asia Trans Gas, as well as several leading experts joined the forum from Beijing and Shanghai online.
Among the speakers were Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China Yu Jun, heads of leading think tanks of Uzbekistan and China, representatives of ministries and agencies, and Chinese companies operating in Uzbekistan.
During the conference, a discussion took place of the results of the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to China and his negotiations with the President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping that took place on January 23-25 this year.
Representatives of official structures and the expert community of China highly appreciated the current relations between the two countries. They emphasized that the results of the negotiations between the two countries’ leaders serve as a solid basis for further strengthening relations between Uzbekistan and China and contribute to the sustainable development of the entire region.
The forum participants informed about the main projects being implemented between the two countries, the conditions created for Chinese investors in Uzbekistan, cooperation in green energy, oil and gas, and chemical industries, IT industry, hydropower, light industry, automotive industry, production of building materials, as well as cultural and humanitarian interaction and youth exchange.
In his welcoming speech, IICA Director Javlon Vakhabov noted that the primary goal of the conference, undoubtedly, is to inform the general public of the results of the agreements reached at the highest level and the real benefits of the ongoing projects for the people of the two countries. According to the Director, it is essential to analyze how, in the process of cooperation between the business communities of the two countries, the problems of socio-economic development are solved, including the introduction of the latest advanced technologies into production, job creation, training specialists and assistance in the development of infrastructure and the social sphere at the local level.
In turn, Ambassador Yu Jun emphasized that under the leadership of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, building New Uzbekistan is rapidly progressing, the country’s economy is rapidly growing, the potential of the regions is being revealed and the international status of the country is significantly increasing. The Ambassador stated that further strengthening cooperation between China and Uzbekistan is one of the most important areas of Chinese foreign policy.
Following the conference, participants proposed enhancing mutually beneficial cooperation in trade and investment, transport and communications, automotive industry, green economy, education and tourism, and holding annual Regional Cooperation Forums in China and Uzbekistan.
