BEIJING: Spreading pessimistic views on China will end up harming oneself, and misjudging China will result in missed opportunities, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Thursday.
China’s development is driven not only by a reasonable growth in quantity but also an effective upgrade in quality, Wang told a press conference held on the sidelines of the ongoing session of the national legislature.
The Chinese economy expanded 5.2 percent year on year in 2023, contributing to about one third of global economic growth.
Wang said that China remains strong as an engine for growth and the “next China” is still China.
With an ultra-huge market of over 1.4 billion people embracing bursts of new demands and business patterns, China is quickly expanding the space for its development and international cooperation, Wang said.
The country’s door of opening up keeps widening, with more substantial progress made in higher-standard and institutional opening up, he said.
“China cannot do without the world in achieving development, and the world needs China even more for development,” he added.
