Singapore: President-elect Prabowo Subianto met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss enhancing bilateral defense cooperation on the sidelines of an event in Singapore.
“I appreciate the Ukrainian president’s initiative for today’s meeting, which specifically addressed defense issues,” Prabowo was quoted as saying on the Defense Ministry website.
Indonesia and Ukraine agreed on the potential for collaboration in the defense industry and technology transfer.
Prabowo, who currently serves as Indonesia’s defense minister, assured Zelensky that he aims to establish strong and mutually beneficial defense cooperation with Ukraine, according to a statement from the ministry.
The meeting took place as the military conflict between Ukraine and Russia enters its third year with no signs of lasting resolution, even as Kyiv begins to receive financial and military support from Western countries.
Indonesia maintains a neutral stance in the conflict. Incumbent President Joko Widodo has met with both Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin, advocating for a peaceful resolution.
After his meeting with Prabowo, Zelensky wrote on his X account that he expects Indonesia’s full support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Prabowo was in Singapore as one of the speakers at the International Institute for Strategic Studies’ dialogue.
