ISLAMABAD( WNAM REPORT): Professor Dr. Nabi Bux Jumani, former Vice President of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) and a distinguished academic, passed away during a surgery.
Dr. Jumani, who also served as Acting President of IIUI, was a prominent figure in academia. He held multiple key roles, including Vice President of Administration, Finance, and Planning, and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at IIUI. His career spanned over three decades, during which he made significant contributions to online and distance learning programs.
In addition to his role as Dean, he was a Professor of Education, Director of the Directorate of Distance Education at IIUI, and also served as Programme Coordination Officer at the Federal Ministry of Education.
Dr. Nabi Bux Jumani, who passed away at the age of 58, was a distinguished academic and educator with over 31 years of experience. He commenced his professional career in Federal Ministry of Education in December 1993. He held a PhD in Education from Allama Iqbal Open University and completed his post-doctoral studies in Distance Education from Deakin University, Australia. Renowned for his work in distance learning and program design, he authored over 100 research papers and contributed 11 chapters to educational curriculums. He also served as Editor for the International Journal of Distance Education and Asian Journal of Distance Education, leaving an enduring legacy in both academic leadership and education policy reforms.
In recognition of his services, Dr. Jumani received the Best University Teacher Award from the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan in 2015.
IIUI Rector Prof. Dr. Samina Malik and President Dr. Muhammad Sarwar expressed profound grief over his passing, calling it an irreparable loss to the university. Tributes from the education community have emphasized the lasting impact of his work, leaving a void in Pakistan’s educational landscape.
Honorable members of the Board of Governors of IIUI, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Dr. Syed Muhammad Anwer, Judge, Federal Shariat Cour, Dr. Muhammad Aamir Tuaseen, Prof. Dr. Naseer Ahmed Akhtar and Maulana Saeed Yousaf have expressed their heartfelt condolences to the IIUI community. They offered prayers for the grieving family, asking for strength and patience to endure this profound loss.
Former Rector IIUI Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, Former President Dr. Hathal Homoud Alotaibi, and former Vice President Prof. Dr. Sahibzada Sajid ur Rehman have expressed profound grief, stating that the void left by Dr. Jumani’s passing is immeasurable. They described him as a beacon of inspiration, whose work and compassionate personality touched countless lives. They said his legacy of dedication and kindness will continue to inspire generations to come.
The teaching, officers, and staff communities of the university as well as the students expressed deep sorrow, stating that the institution has lost a world-class academician, an exceptional administrator, and a compassionate senior who was deeply committed to hard work, humanity, and the rights of employees. His unwavering dedication and leadership left an indelible mark, and his absence will be profoundly felt across the university.
