WNAM REPORT: A large-scale sporting event is being prepared in Abu Dhabi. The Active Abu Dhabi organization together with the Emirates Foundation and PureHealth announced the launch of the ambitious Walk 1000 project. The central event of the initiative will be a grand 1000-kilometer walk, equal in length to 24 classic marathons.
The unique 30-day route, which kicks off on November 1, is supported by the Department of Community Development, Abu Dhabi Police and the Ministry of Defence and will take participants through the most impressive locations in the emirate. The route will start in Al Sila, pass through the majestic Liwa Desert and picturesque Jabel Hafeet, reach Al Ain and end in Al Wathba. Participants will have to cover an average of 33 kilometers each day.
Ten athletes will take part in this historic journey, and their journey will be captured in a documentary film that will premiere in March 2025.
The route covers 30 iconic landmarks, including the Baynounah Houbara Bird Sanctuary and the state-of-the-art Al Sadeem Observatory, allowing participants to not only test their physical abilities but also experience the region’s rich cultural and natural heritage.
The organizers have provided an opportunity for everyone to participate: residents are invited to join the 30-day challenge, fulfilling the norm of 6,000 steps daily.
