WNAM MONITORING: Nearly 60% of the parliament’s Legislative Chamber and local councils have been renewed as a result of Sunday’s elections. Women now account for 38% of the parliamentary deputies, a historic high. For the first time, 3 persons with disabilities joined the parliament.
The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Uzbekistan on 31 October registered 150 deputies of the Legislative (lower) Chamber of the Oliy Majlis (parliament), elected on 27 October.
The Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businessmen — Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (UzLiDeP) received 64 seats (42.7%), Milliy Tiklanish (National Revival) Democratic Party 29 (14%), Adolat (Justice) Social Democratic Party 21 (14%), People’s Democratic Party 20 (13.3%) and the Ecological Party 16 (10.7%).
Women represent 38% of the elected deputies, the highest percentage in Uzbekistan’s history.
In terms of age, 2 deputies are under 30 years old, 38.6% are aged 30 to 45, 46.6% are between 45 and 60 and 13.3% are over 60.
All deputies have a higher education degree, with 15% having studied abroad. Their fields of expertise include 30% economists, 22% lawyers, 18.7% educators, 12% engineers, 9.3% healthcare professionals and 8% in cultural fields, entrepreneurs and farmers.
Moreover, 35% of deputies hold academic degrees.
For the first time, 3 individuals with disabilities were elected as deputies.
Local kengashes (councils)
As a result of the elections to the Jokargy Kenes (Supreme Council or parliament) of Karakalpakstan, as well as regional, Tashkent city, district and city kengashes of people’s deputies, their composition has been updated by 59.2%, the CEC said.
Women make up 32.6% of the newly elected deputies.
4% of deputies are under 30 years old, 39.5% are aged 30 to 45, 40.8% are aged 45 to 60 and 15.7% are over 60.
Among the elected deputies, 93.3% have higher education, with 36.2% being educators, 18.2% economists, 13% engineers, 7.6% doctors, 5% lawyers and 20% from cultural fields, entrepreneurs and farmers.
A total of 138 individuals with disabilities have been elected to the local kengashes.
As reported earlier, voter turnout at the elections made up 74.72%, or 15.027 million out of more than 19.9 million eligible voters.
