Tashkent( WNAM MONITORING): Uzbekistan has officially submitted its candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2035–2036 term.
The country’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ulugbek Lapasov, delivered a speech at a Security Council meeting dedicated to multilateralism and the reform of global governance institutions. The session was chaired by China, according to the Dunyo news agency.
In his address, Lapasov conveyed Uzbekistan’s official stance on key areas of cooperation with the UN. The meeting participants were briefed on the extensive reforms underway in the country, as well as Uzbekistan’s commitment to multilateralism and the enhancement of global governance structures.
Special emphasis was placed on regional cooperation, particularly the economic recovery of Afghanistan. The Uzbek representative reaffirmed the country’s readiness to further strengthen collaboration with the UN in combating transnational threats, including drug trafficking, terrorism, and organized crime.
During the session, UN member states were invited to participate in the UN Public Service Forum, which will be held in June 2025 in Samarkand under the theme: “Five Years to 2030: Accelerating Public Service Delivery for a Sustainable Future.”
Lapasov also reiterated Uzbekistan’s firm commitment to global peace and security, underscoring the country’s intention to secure a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2035–2036 term.
