Jakarta ( WNAM MONITORING ):  The Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry informed that all Indonesian citizens in Iran are safe, in regard to the explosion at the port in Bandar Abbas, Iran.

In a statement on Sunday, the ministry’s spokesperson, Rolliansyah Soemirat, said that of the total of 385 Indonesians living in Iran, none of them live in Bandar Abbas.

“Most of the students live in Qom, and many other Indonesian citizens live in Tehran, the capital of Iran,” the statement said.

According to him, in 2024, two Indonesian citizens worked as Crew Members (ABK) in Bandar Abbas, but they have returned to Indonesia.

He stated that the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran has coordinated with the authorities in Iran and the Indonesian citizen community in various regions in Iran to ensure their safety and will continue to monitor the condition of Indonesian citizens in Iran periodically.

Soemirat informed that Indonesian citizens who need assistance can contact the Indonesian Embassy hotline in Tehran via the number +989024668889.

Previously, an explosion occurred at the Shahid Rajaee port in Bandar Abbas, Iran, on Saturday (April 26), which killed 25 people and injured at least 1,139 people.

This incident was suspected to be from chemicals in gas tanks.

Bandar Abbas is an important port area in Iran bordering Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) located in the southern province of Hormozgan, about 15 kilometers southwest of Bandar Abbas Port on the northern coast of the Strait of Hormuz.

According to witnesses, local reports said that a small fire quickly spread and triggered the explosion due to the air temperature, with a heat of 40 degrees Celsius, and spread to piles of flammable materials.

All port operations were temporarily suspended to allow security and emergency forces to neutralize the vicinity.
