Bandung : State-owned railway operator PT KAI revealed that one steward had died in the collision involving the Turangga long-distance train and Bandung local train in Bandung District, West Java, on Friday.
“We can confirm that the incident has resulted in one casualty, a steward. We have already moved the victim’s body to a hospital,” KAI’s Vice President of Public Relations Joni Martinus stated in Bandung District.
He further revealed that the Operational Area 2 (Daop 2) of KAI in Bandung had taken actions to respond to the accident, including evacuating several derailed train cars.
“We would like to inform you that we are currently in the process of searching, investigating, and inspecting the accident location to figure out the cause of the collision,” he remarked.
The collision involved the Surabaya-Bandung Turangga Train (KA Plb 65A) and Bandung Raya Commuter Line Train (KA 350) near the Cicalengka Station in Bandung District at 6:03 a.m. local time.
The Turangga Train was operating with seven executive-class cars and one panoramic car. A total of 287 passengers of the train have been confirmed to survive the crash.
“There were approximately 287 passengers aboard the Turangga Train, while the local train was accommodating about 191 people. Based on the latest information, all of the passengers are safe,” Martinus noted.
He also extended an apology to passengers for the disruption to services following the train collision.
“We would like to express our sincerest apology for this accident. Regarding data on victims, we are still collecting it. An investigation to find the cause of the accident has been underway,” he concluded.
Earlier, the Transportation Ministry stated that it had deployed a team to respond to the collision.
