The victory in World War II was achieved through the courage, resilience, and self-sacrifice of millions of people. Uzbekistan’s multinational people also contributed significantly to this great accomplishment.
At the outbreak of the war, Uzbekistan’s population numbered more than six million people. During the war years, approximately two million citizens of Uzbekistan were sent to the frontlines. Over 538,000 sacrificed their lives on battlefields, and more than 158,000 were reported missing.

In a short time, more than 170 evacuated enterprises were relocated to Uzbekistan, ensuring the uninterrupted operation of the defense industry.
During those challenging years, the people of Uzbekistan demonstrated exceptional humanity by sheltering over 1.5 million evacuees from frontline areas, including over 250,000 orphaned children.
The international community has widely recognized the heroic contribution of the Uzbek people during the war years.
Significant efforts are also being undertaken in Uzbekistan to honor the memory of war heroes and home-front workers, with special attention given to the social support of veterans. A grand memorial complex, Victory Park, has been established in Tashkent.
