WNAM MONITORING: The freight capacity of Incheburun railway station is expected to increase from the current 600,000 tons to 1 million tons within a year, said Jabbar Zakeri, head of the Railway Administration, during a visit to the station on September 8 alongside Turkmenistan’s Minister of Railway Transport, Mammet Akmammedov.
The minister added that after completing ongoing infrastructure projects, the capacity could eventually reach 3 million tons annually, according to the Mehr news agency.
The cooperation between the two countries aims to transform Incheburun into a key hub in the Iran–Turkmenistan–Kazakhstan transport corridor.
Zakery also noted that the joint Turkmen-Iranian commission has reached preliminary agreements to increase freight volumes through three border points to 6–7 million tons per year.
Incheburun is a major railway and port border crossing between Iran and Turkmenistan, located in Iran’s northeastern Golestan Province near the Caspian Sea coast. It serves as an important transit point for both rail and road international routes.
