Jakarta ( WNAM MONITORING):  President Prabowo Subianto has called on ASEAN member states to remain courageous, adaptive, and visionary in confronting global uncertainties, during the plenary session of the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.

“Facing global uncertainty, let us lead with purpose, not only for our region, but for a more stable, just, and inclusive world,” Prabowo said, according to the Presidential Secretariat’s statement received here.

The President highlighted ASEAN unity as the region’s key strength in navigating rising global tensions.

He stressed that unity must be reflected in stronger coordination, regional integration, and digital transformation to withstand external shocks and future uncertainties.

Prabowo also praised the leadership of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for organizing a successful summit and for resolving recent regional disputes.

He welcomed Timor-Leste as ASEAN’s 11th member, congratulated Thailand’s new Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, and conveyed condolences over the passing of Thailand’s Queen Mother, Sirikit.

The President emphasized that ASEAN’s strength on the global stage must be grounded in strong domestic foundations.

“A strong foundation at home enables us to build bridges to the world and gives us credibility to be involved and help shape the future beyond our borders,” Prabowo said.

Amid geo-economic challenges, he highlighted ASEAN’s achievements in economic and digital integration, including initiatives to update the ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and enhance regional trade and innovation.

Closing his remarks, Prabowo underlined the importance of upcoming commemorations, including the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation and the 15th anniversary of the East Asia Summit Bali Principles, as moments to reinforce ASEAN solidarity.
