HÀ NỘI ( WNAM MONITORING): Party General Secretary Tô Lâm has instructed the General Department of Logistics and Technical Services under the Ministry of National Defence to further promote initiative, creativity and self-reliance to ensure the timely and sufficient supply of materiel, weapons and logistical and technical equipment for both routine and unexpected missions in the coming time.
Party leader Lâm delivered the instruction while addressing a ceremony in Hà Nội on Wednesday to present the title Hero of the People’s Armed Forces to the general department.
He said the department’s logistics and technical support must meet the requirements of training, exercises, combat readiness and operations in all circumstances, as well as disaster response, recovery efforts and epidemic control.
He also called for continued reform and improvement of logistics and technical assurance mechanisms in the new context, alongside sustained efforts to enhance the living conditions and health care of servicemen and women, thereby strengthening the overall combat capability of the armed forces.
Emphasising the importance of proactive forecasting, he urged stronger assessment of global trends in military science and faster research, application of scientific and technological advances, innovation and digital transformation in management, operations, design, manufacturing, production, repair and modernisation of weapons and equipment.
Particular priority, he said, should be given to strategic weapon systems and key technical equipment, as well as improving the quality of scientific research at research institutes and military academies within the general department and across the logistics and technical sector of the armed forces.
Entering a new era, the military logistics and technical sector must take the lead in scientific and technological innovation, actively absorbing the most advanced achievements of human knowledge and applying them to military logistics, defence technology and the country’s broader industrialisation and modernisation drive.
Products developed by the general department and the sector should include specialised and dual-use items researched and produced in the spirit of confidence, self-reliance, autonomy, resilience and national pride, with particular emphasis on strategic autonomy.
At the ceremony, Party General Secretary Tô Lâm conferred the title Hero of the People’s Armed Forces on the general department in recognition of its exceptionally outstanding and sudden achievements in training, combat readiness, building the People’s Army and strengthening national defence.
