WNAM REPORT:  Indonesia’s Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) is working with Chinese halal bodies to align standards ahead of a mandatory halal certification policy set for October 2026.

BPJPH Head Ahmad Haikal Hasan said in a statement issued in Jakarta on Wednesday that the cooperation would benefit bilateral trade by easing exports while ensuring proper product screening.

He said one step includes meetings and discussions held earlier this week.

A total of 18 Chinese halal institutions were invited to discuss aligning Indonesia’s regulations with existing practices in China.

He added the cooperation would also cover the broader halal ecosystem, including inspection, inventory management, packaging and distribution.

“These are key to ensuring halal quality across the supply chain. We aim to work together to build a stronger economy,” he said.

China was chosen first due to its large number of halal institutions and significant trade volume with Indonesia, Hasan said.

China is also seen as a leading player in the global halal industry, with production continuing to grow through 2026.

“We can learn from China’s implementation, despite its non-Muslim-majority population and strong halal awareness,” he said.

BPJPH plans to hold similar meetings with halal bodies from other countries, including in Europe.

“This effort is part of our push to make the halal sector a key contributor to national economic targets,” Hasan said.

He added the forum is expected to strengthen international cooperation and support sustainable growth in the global halal industry.
