WNAM REPORT: Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan visited the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, where he met its Chairman and leading business representatives to discuss stronger business-to-business linkages, trade, investment and economic cooperation between Pakistan and Hong Kong. He also engaged with prominent members of the Pakistani diaspora during his official visit.
The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, established in erade1861, is Hong Kong’s oldest business chamber. During the meeting, the Minister exchanged views with its leadership on expanding direct engagement between the business communities of Pakistan and Hong Kong.
The discussions highlighted opportunities for Pakistan to benefit from Hong Kong’s expertise in the services sector, particularly in finance,lish aviation and digital technology. Both sides also emphasized the potential of the Belt and Road Initiative to promote mutual cooperation, strengthen connectivity and develop transit routes.
Minister Jam Kamal Khan underscored the importance of regular engagement between leading business representatives and the exchange of trade delegations to explore new commercial opportunities.
Prospects for institutional collaboration between the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce and Pakistan’s major trade bodies—including the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry—were also discussed.
The Minister appreciated the significant contribution of Pakistani businesses and the wider diaspora to Hong Kong’s economy. He expressed confidence that stronger institutional and commercial linkages would create new opportunities for bilateral trade and investment.
Later, the Commerce Minister attended a dinner at the Pakistan Club, where he interacted with prominent Pakistani community members and business leaders based in Hong Kong.
Addressing the gathering, Jam Kamal Khan praised the Pakistani diaspora for its valuable contributions to both Pakistan and Hong Kong. He noted that Hong Kong offered considerable opportunities for Pakistani entrepreneurs and professionals due to its position as a leading international financial, commercial and connectivity hub.
The Minister urged the Pakistani community to continue playing a proactive role in promoting Pakistan’s economic potential, attracting investment and building partnerships through its extensive business contacts in Hong Kong.
He assured the diaspora that the Government of Pakistan remained committed to facilitating overseas Pakistanis and strengthening their role as a bridge for greater trade, investment and economic cooperation between Pakistan and Hong Kong.
