Jakarta: A member of the House of Representatives (DPR), Endro Siswantoro Yahman, has advised the government to announce the transfer of the national capital from Jakarta to Nusantara in East Kalimantan without delay.
According to him, Indonesia’s capital city status is currently uncertain. He opined that this uncertainty has stoked doubt among investors about investing their assets in Nusantara.
“The global investment is waiting whether it is real or not. If you want (Nusantara to) be real, (the government must) politically declare it. The important thing is the proclamation,” Yahman said during a working meeting with the Nusantara Capital City Authority (OIKN) at the parliamentary complex here on Monday.
The existence of economic activities in Nusantara is one of the elements that would make the city lively, he added.
He said that if Nusantara is only meant for central government activities, and lacks business activities, it will be quiet.
For this reason, he advised the OIKN to communicate with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) regarding the formal announcement of Nusantara becoming the national capital in order to lay a strong foundation for investment activities.
He said that the Law on the National Capital (IKN) provides opportunities for investors. According to him, the law’s issuance is aimed at reducing the burden on the country’s fiscal.
