WNAM MONITORING: President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, received the General Secretary of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Sergey Lebedev, who arrived in the country to participate in the upcoming meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Government.
Sergey Lebedev expressed his sincere gratitude to the Turkmen leader for supporting the development of effective cooperation within the CIS, aimed at achieving common well-being, as reported by the official media of Turkmenistan.
Expressing confidence that the upcoming meeting would provide a good opportunity to discuss the main directions and prospects for cooperation within the CIS, and that its outcomes would further strengthen multilateral interaction, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov stated that cooperation within the CIS framework is one of the priority aspects of Turkmenistan’s neutral foreign policy strategy.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that the upcoming meeting of the Council of Heads of Government, at the initiative of Turkmenistan, would consider the draft resolution to declare Ashgabat the City of New Sports Opportunities of the Commonwealth, expressing confidence that the adoption of this document would further strengthen friendly ties.
In turn, the CIS General Secretary noted that Ashgabat has all the necessary infrastructure to host international sports events at a high level and that the country has become a center for world-class sports competitions.
The National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, also met with the Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Independent States, Sergey Lebedev.
