WNAM MONITORING: The 13th Meeting of the Council of Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA) was held in Baku.
In his opening remarks, acting chairman of TURKPA, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, Numan Kurtulmus, highlighted the importance of TURKPA, which possesses a crucial place among the Turkic cooperation institutions.
Numan Kurtulmus handed over the chairmanship of TURKPA to Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Mİlli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova. He wished success to the Azerbaijani side in the chairmanship of the organization in the coming period.
Speaker Sahiba Gafarova underlined that Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis will spare no efforts to implement the necessary measures for the achievement of the organization’s goals and further development of cooperation in the coming period. She hailed the hosting of main events of the Assembly in Baku for the fourth time during TURKPA’s 15 years of activity. Sahiba Gafarova emphasized that Azerbaijan highly appreciates TURKPA contributions to solidifying friendly and cooperative relations between the countries.
Quoting President Ilham Aliyev as saying: “Our family is the Turkic world”, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova emphasized that continuous measures to strengthen the Turkic unity constitute one of the priority areas of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy.
During her address, Speaker of the Parliament also highlighted the 44-day Patriotic War and Azerbaijan’s Presidency of COP29 this November.
Sahiba Gafarova said that the discussions and decisions to be made on the topic “Green horizons for the Turkic world: the role of parliaments in the implementation of the green agenda” at the TURKPA plenary meeting will be an indicator of parliamentary support for the fight against climate change and cooperation in the field of green energy between the countries.
Numan Kurtulmus, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye Numan Kurtulmus, Nurlanbek Shakiev Chairman of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic and Yerlan Koshanov Chairman of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan expressed their gratitude for the organization of the event and the hospitality shown, and voiced their best wishes to the Azerbaijani side during its presidency.
The speakers expressed their hope that the exchange of views and decisions to be made at the 13th Council and plenary sessions of TURKPA would make a significant contribution to further strengthening the organization’s future activities.
