BELGRADE: Mohamed Bin Zayed University for Humanities has signed two Memorandums of Understanding with the College of Islamic Studies and the International University in Novi Pazar in Serbia. These agreements align with the university’s vision to expand its strategic partners in the humanities and social and philosophical studies.

This came during the Mohamed Bin Zayed University delegation’s visit to Serbia.

These initiatives aim to facilitate the exchange of Islamic and Arab cultures while championing tolerance, love, and respect for human rights. Additionally, they seek to uphold the values of moderation and foster openness to diverse global cultures.

The MoUs were signed by Dr. Khalifa Mubarak Al Dhaheri, Chancellor of Mohamed Bin Zayed University for Humanities; Dr. Anwar Omarović, Dean of the College of Islamic Studies in Serbia; and Professor Pierović, President of International University.

The MoUs outline a comprehensive framework to enhance cooperation between Mohamed Bin Zayed University and its Serbian counterparts. They establish guidelines to govern the relationships among all involved parties, ensuring the fulfilment of their obligations while preserving each party’s integrity.

Key aspects of the agreements include the exchange of academic staff and students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, accreditation of academic subjects, and collaborative external activities such as training courses, conferences, and seminars. Furthermore, they encompass joint research projects, academic publications, and the exchange of scholarly materials, including joint doctoral theses.

During their visit, the delegation from Mohamed Bin Zayed University engaged with Dr. Mevlud ef Dudic, President of the Islamic community and Grand Mufti of Serbia, to explore avenues for collaboration in the religious domain. Discussions centred on developing Islamic studies curricula and promoting Islamic and Arabic culture and values.

The university delegation also held talks with Maja Popović, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Serbia, focusing on strategic cooperation in humanities, social sciences, and philosophy to bolster cultural and humanitarian ties between the two entities.

Dr. Al Dhaheri hailed the visit as a success, underscoring its role in expanding scientific, academic, and religious cooperation with Serbia. He emphasised the agreements’ significance as a testament to the university’s commitment to fostering strategic partnerships for exchanging knowledge and experiences with regional and international academic institutions.

The chancellor highlighted the mutual benefits of these exchanges, particularly in advancing educational and knowledge programmes. He noted that this initiative enables the university to engage with Serbian society and promote the values of human fraternity and moderation, particularly among students and academic professionals.
