Jakarta: The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy has predicted that the movement of domestic tourists will increase by 10–20 percent during the school holiday season from June to July 2024.
“During the school holiday, it is predicted that there will be an increase of 10–20 percent in visits compared to normal days,” the ministry’s expert staff, Nia Niscaya said during “The Weekly Brief with Sandi Uno” in Jakarta on Wednesday.
She added that industry players and tourist destination managers must make preparations, including for the possibility of accumulation of visitors in one place at the same time.
Niscaya advised the managers to handle such matters well so as to provide the best experience to visitors because the tourism industry is a perception-based business.
“When the experience is not good, it can be a disaster because people will share their unpleasant experiences and will not come back,” she explained.
To this end, she asked tourism industry players to maintain the security, safety, and health aspects.
Regarding security, she asked tourist destination managers to use the Visitor Management Technique, especially to monitor crowd points.
Furthermore, she asked the managers to ensure that the use of rides or tourist attractions is in accordance with their carrying capacity.
She also underscored the importance of the provision of evacuation routes. She asked tourist destination managers to install gathering point markers so that tourists know where to run when a disaster occurs.
“Then, what is also important is paying attention to changes in weather, like what is conveyed by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG),” she said.
Niscaya asked all tourist destination managers to continuously coordinate with various parties to ensure that the holiday situation remains conducive, which, according to her, would encourage tourists to visit the destination again.
