Jakarta ( WNAM MONITORING ): The Indonesian government will implement two special schemes during this year’s Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, according to Minister of Religious Affairs, Nasaruddin Umar.
Speaking to the press on Saturday, Umar explained that one of the schemes is murur—a Hajj flow system that allows pilgrims to pass through Muzdalifah en route from Arafah to Mina without stopping or staying at any point in between.
First introduced last year for elderly pilgrims and those with disabilities, the murur scheme proved effective in facilitating faster and more manageable movement during the pilgrimage.
“The other scheme is tanazul—which lifts the requirement for pilgrims to stay in tents at Mina, allowing them instead to spend the night in hotels,” Umar said.
He noted that this scheme is also significant, as hotels are often located closer to ritual sites than the designated tent areas.
However, Umar clarified that the tanazul scheme will not apply to all pilgrims. Priority will be given to those in greater need.
“We expect to facilitate the tanazul scheme for between 40,000 and 50,000 prioritized pilgrims. The rest will perform the Hajj following the traditional method,” he stated. “Additionally, we will implement several other adjustments.”
Umar also emphasized the government’s continued commitment to improving the quality of Hajj services, including food and catering.
“We are learning from last year’s experience to avoid repeating past shortcomings,” he said.
Regarding transportation and accommodation, Umar assured that thorough preparations and preventive measures are being taken.
“We’ve explored several bus options to transport pilgrims between ritual sites,” he added, noting that his team has also identified hotels located within 4.5 kilometers of the Grand Mosque (Masjidil Haram) in Mecca.
On flight arrangements, he confirmed that the government has instructed all assigned airlines to strictly comply with international standards.
