WNAM MONITORING: The Ministry of Education and Training has announced the official results of the Vietnamese national team at the 2024 International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) held in Iran. All five students on the Vietnamese team secured medals, including two Golds and three Silvers.
Gold medalists: Than The Cong and Truong Phi Hung, 12th grade, from Bac Giang High School for the Gifted (Bac Giang province).
Silver medalists:
– Nguyen Nhat Minh, 12th grade, High School for Gifted Students, University of Science, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
– Ha Duyen Phuc, 12th grade, Lam Son High School for the Gifted (Thanh Hoa province).
– Nguyen Thanh Duy, 12th grade, Tran Phu High School for the Gifted (Hai Phong city).
The 54th International Physics Olympiad took place in Iran from July 21 to July 29. According to the IPhO 2024 regulations, the competition consisted of a theoretical exam and an experimental exam, each lasting 5 hours.
This year’s tests were praised for their challenging and engaging content, closely related to real-life applications and modern scientific and technological advancements. To win a gold medal, contestants had to rank in the top 8% of the highest-scoring participants.
With a 100% medal achievement rate, including 2 golds and 3 silvers, the Vietnamese team ranked among the top-performing countries at the 2024 International Physics Olympiad. This year’s results surpass those of 2023, when the team won 2 golds, 2 silvers, and 1 bronze. Notably, the practical exam scores of Vietnamese students have significantly improved compared to recent AphO and IPhO competitions.
