Badung( WNAM MONITORING): Indonesia will advocate for the blue economy concept as a solution to public welfare challenges during the High-Level Forum on Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships (HLF MSP) in Bali.
“Indonesia, as a maritime country rich in marine resources, sees the importance of utilizing these resources to improve public welfare,” Deputy for Politics, Law and Security at the Ministry of National Development Planning Bogat Widyatmoko said here on Sunday.
Widyatmoko stated that the ministry’s Indonesia Blue Economy Roadmap 2023-2045 has served as a reference for ASEAN countries and has garnered interest from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
Widyatmoko warned against the dangers of unsustainable economic practices, particularly in the face of global welfare and sustainability challenges. He proposed the blue economy as a viable solution for sustainable development.
National Development Planning Minister Suharso Monoarfa previously highlighted the blue economy’s potential to drive Indonesia’s economic growth and stimulate various maritime industries.
Through the Blue Economy Roadmap, Indonesia aims to increase the maritime economy’s contribution to GDP from 7.6 percent to 15 percent by 2045.
Suharso stated that the roadmap is expected to create 12 million new jobs by 2030 through the development of existing and new industries.
Additionally, Indonesia is on track to achieve its target of 10 percent marine protected areas by 2030, he said.
