Jakarta (WNAM MONITORING ): The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged India and Pakistan to exercise restraint and prioritize dialogue in resolving the crisis.
“Indonesia is monitoring closely the development of the situation between India and Pakistan,” the ministry posted on X on Wednesday.
Following the latest clashes between the two neighboring countries, Indonesian citizens residing in India and Pakistan are advised to remain alert and avoid traveling to affected areas and possible targeted places.
On Tuesday evening (May 6), India said it had fired missiles at Pakistani cities and parts of Kashmir ruled by Pakistan.
On Wednesday, the Indian Embassy in Jakarta claimed that the attack only targeted known terrorist camps.
“No Pakistani civilian, economic, or military targets were hit. Only known terrorist camps were targeted,” the embassy stated in a press release.
The embassy said India’s action was focused and targeted, measured and responsible, and designed not to escalate.
“India has credible leads, technical data, survivor testimonies, and other evidence that clearly indicate the involvement of Pakistan-based terrorists in this attack,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, Pakistani military spokesman Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry stated that at least eight people were killed, 35 injured, and two missing after the Indian missile attacks.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said his country would give a “befitting response” to India for its missile attacks on Pakistani cities, calling the Indian action a “cowardly attack” and an “act of war.”
The escalation between the nuclear-armed neighbors follows an April 22 attack in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir that killed 26 people.
