WNAM REPORT: Kazakhstan set up the coordination council of partners for the water sector development. It brings together representatives of the Kazakh Water Resources and Irrigation Ministry, UNDP, international organizations, financial institutions, and other structures, reports said.
Its key goals are to ensure coordinated actions of state bodies, UNDP, international organizations, and financial institutions in conformity with the national priorities, mobilize and efficiently distribute financial and technical resources to achieve the set goals, support and develop key strategic documents, including the Water Code, water sector development package plan. It is also purposed to introduce international practices and innovation solutions in water resources management, strengthen regional cooperation in water management, and raise sustainability to climate changes and natural disasters, such as flooding and drought.
According to Kazakh Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, the water sector development partners coordination council is an important move for Kazakhstan’s water sector. It is expected to play a significant role in promoting the country’s long-term ecological stability and economic development.
The council is called to mobilize resources, strengthen management, expand regional cooperation, and promote sustainable water resources management practices.
